Spectacles

There are countless different lens options, but here are some of the most popular to give you an idea.

Single Vision

Scratch resistant lenses are available from £60 per pair. If you have a high prescription or want thinner lenses, consider high index lenses. 1.6 MAR coated lenses, for example (£150 per pair) reduce the thickness and weight of lenses by around one third. If you have a very high prescription, ultra thin lens options are available to reduce thickness and weight further.

Bifocals

These are the most cost effective option to avoid two pairs of glasses. It is worth considering varifocals too, as these avoid the visible line across your lenses and give intermediate vision (useful for car dashboard or computer viewing, for example) as well as distance and reading clarity.

Scratch resistant bifocal lenses are available from £90 per pair. If you have a high prescription or want thinner lenses, consider high index lenses. 1.6 MAR coated lenses for example (£215 per pair) reduce the thickness and weight of lenses by around one third. If you have a very high prescription, ultra thin lens options are available to reduce thickness and weight further.

Varifocals

Varifocals gradually change in power from the top to the bottom of the lens. This allows power for tasks at middle distance, for example, viewing a computer screen and, unlike a bifocal, there is no visible line across the lens. With varifocals, one pair of lenses can be used for distance, reading and intermediate viewing distances.

Our most popular varifocal lenses are the new bespoke "freeform" lenses. Bespoke freeform lenses use the latest technology in varifocals to give the most comfortable and natural vision. The lenses are designed and manufactured individually for you, taking into account the shape of your chosen frame, the amount of the lens needed for different tasks and allowing the best possible vision across the lenses.  Our most popular lenses are our Easy Adapt Extra Wide lenses which cost £320 per pair with anti-reflective coatings.

If you have a high prescription or want thinner lenses, consider high index lenses. 1.6 index lenses reduce the thickness and weight of lenses by around one third. A popular example are the Easy Adapt Extra Wide 1.6 lenses which cost £390 per pair with anti-reflective coatings.  If you have a very high prescription, ultra thin lens options are available to reduce thickness and weight further.

Anti-reflection coatings (MARs)

Most of our patients enjoy the benefits of multi anti-reflection coated lenses (MAR) which are available for a £35 supplement. MAR coatings reduce lens awareness by reducing glare. This is especially useful for night time driving and computer use. MAR coatings are also scratch resistant. They look great too, as they reduce surface reflections that other people see when looking at you in your glasses.

Transitions lenses

Most lens types are available in transitions lenses, which are 100% UV blocking and darken in response to sunlight.

Children's glasses

Standard lenses for children are covered by the NHS voucher system.
Frames for children start from £19.95

Children can also benefit from impact resistant lenses, flexi-frames and UV coatings for a supplement. Prescription sunglasses, sports glasses and prescription swimming goggles are a great way to protect young eyes.
