The Practice

What are all the rocks about?

Many people coming into the practice comment on the lichen images on the wall, in our stationery or leaflets and often ask why we choose them.

When we decided to establish a new opticians in Gosforth in 2002 Louise and I jotted down the logo for "Keyes Opticians" on a sheet of paper, went to a local printer to tidy it up, and we had our first logo! The oval logo, for "Keyes Opticians Newcastle", was to represent a lens. By 2010 we felt that the name Keyes Opticians didn't do us justice and looked for a new name, to reflect better the reputation we had built up for personalised eye care. We settled on "Keyes Eyecare" and looked for an image to go with the new name that would say something more meaningful about us.

We came across a local photographer Iain Duncan and loved his close-up images. I approached him and explained that we were looking to use a few images that would reflect two things. Firstly, our emphasis on attention to detail in the way that we relate to patients and address their eye care needs and secondly the privileged role we have in enabling people to see detail that they might otherwise be unable to see. Iain liked the ethos of the practice, and our vision to blend being a friendly local community opticians practice with an innovative approach to eyecare through our specialist clinics that draw people from around the country. He was delighted that his images were to form part of our new visual identity and we never tire of looking at them.
